  Any Good 1975 Stories?

  despite denial by the wts of any 1975 armageddon predictions zealous jw's did believe it, openly talked about it, and some even sold houses & belongings in anticipation of it.

  do you have or know of any good 1975 stories?.

  here's mine.........i was a freshman in college and had quit attending the kh back in hs.

  For those who still argue that the Watchtower did not specifically state that 1975 would see Armageddon, consider what they did say;

  1. The 1000 year reign of Christ would start within a few years of 1968.

  2. Armageddon would come before the 1000 year reign of Christ starts.

  3. The 1000 year reign of Christ would end before the end of God’s 7th creative Day.

  4. God’s creative Day is 7000 years long.

  5. God’s 7th Day started a few weeks or months after Adam was created.

  6. Adam was created in 4026 BCE.

  So while it is true that the Watchtower did not use the words, “Armageddon will come by 1975”, these six statements are saying precisely that.

  Crazy WT stories

  he turned it down and went to read the wt as he turned the page.

  what did he see?a £5 note.

  Bungi Bill – I certainly can’t deny I fell for it. I was only 16 in 1969 when I swallowed this rubbish and quit school to pioneer. In 1970 I wanted contact lenses, and the optician told me that they will generally last for five years before they will need replacing. I made myself look stupid by telling her that that’s all the time I will need them for.

  As the actual year approached however, I, along with most others in our congregation, were not so sure. It all hinged on the length of time from Adam’s creation to the end of the sixth day. We weren’t so sure it was only months, as Freddie claimed, so our certainty was nothing like it was five years earlier.

  anything blood related was difficult to reasonably prove from a witness perspective.. 1914 was another one.

  what would you think of an elder who told his daughter's fiance that he would kill him if he ever did anything to hurt his daughter?

  Slimboyfat – quite agree, I don’t see this as particularly shocking, but it does highlight the level of hypocrisy among JWs, who talk endlessly about a “clean congregation” free form such disgusting things as pre-marital sex. Mind you, I would be willing to bet that had this couple been engaged in browsing apostate web sites and said that as a result they no longer believed the GB were the FDS, they would both have suffered a lot more than a public reproof.

  bill ,a non witness is killed driving home after work, providing for his family.

  he left behind his wife and 3 kids all under 8 years of age.

  armageddon comes the very next month.

  This story reminds me of what a "brother" once said to me about my non-believing father back in the early 70s. "He'd be better off dying soon" he said, "then he might be resurrected because he’s got no chance surviving Armageddon". I was new back then, but I still found it odd that a person’s everlasting destiny would be determined by chance, or that I should wish my father dead by 1975. No, nowwhat? it makes absolutely no sense at all. But when you get down to it, very little JW stuff actually does.

  Jehovah’s witnesses and having kids

  in my area, a lot of young people don’t want to have kids.

  they get married young from 18-22 years old, and think that they know how they’re going to feel the rest of their lives about having children, (which they think will be never).

  i respect people who don’t want to have kids, there are good reasons not to, but i think it’s foolish at a young age to think you will never think differently for the rest of your life.

  Of course, this attitude is not new, it goes way back to Rutherford’s crazy ideas. When my wife became pregnant in 1974, she was actually told by a 60 odd year old sister that it was a wicked thing to bring a child into the world at this time. My wife was 27 at the time and was deeply hurt by this, particularly as this sister had already had her children, who were now in their 20s and 30s. I feel very sorry for all those who have put their faith in the Watchtower prophecies and gone through life childless because of it.

  Are the G.B.members really good business people ?

  if i was an author of a book i think i would be over the moon if i was guaranteed a sale of around 5 million or more books for my work.. the jehovah`s witnesses have over 8 million members plus relatives that are fringe dwellers who come to the memorial once a year ,.

  so what a gold mine they have been sitting on as a publishing house .. why didn`t they keep publishing books for the faithful ,they could have even upped the price , and the faithful would have paid especially in prosperous country`s in the west.. they could have milked this venture for years to come as the faithful would have bought anything they would have published .. and their prophets (profits) would have soared ,literally and figuratively for many more years to come ..

  They can’t sell books or anything and keep their “charitable” non profit status.

  Why not? Plenty of charities sell books and all sorts of products - just check the Oxfam web site.
  

  But why would anyone buy a book anyway when you can download it for free? They could start charging for the downloads perhaps, but I can't see that happening. Knorr was a good businessman, but this lot are pretty clueless, I think their Armageddon delusion blinds them to what their future really holds.

  the jehovah's witnesses claim that the holy spirit is none other than a force... however when we compare scripture with scripture, we begin to see that the holy spirit is a person.as the jehovah's witnesses dispute this, the question still remains..."who/what is the holy spirit?".

  i can't say much out of fear of getting caught, but i overheard a jw i know on the phone with a friend talking about "how close we are to the end.

  " yeah, yeah, i know.

  we've been on the brink of armageddon for well over a century, but what struck me about this particular instance was what she said next.

  I said it once before on this site, but at the last circuit assembly I attended (1979) the CO or DO said words to the effect, “Brothers, do not let anyone deceive you into thinking that Armageddon is many years away, it is not, it is a matter of months not years.”

  That stuck in my head as I thought, that’s what you said five years ago. The fact that they are still saying it makes me wonder how those that were there at the time can still swallow the same broken record today. Baffling.
